Emojis transcend cultural and linguistic boundaries, their meanings shaped and reshaped by user interpretation. Embracing this fluidity, our team developed Emojian—a new language complete with its own grammar and vocabulary. By translating canonical texts, such as the Bible, literature, and poetry, we explored how emojis can evolve beyond imitation to convey meaning on their own terms. Rooted in the theory of simulacra, Emojian challenges the authority of traditional language systems. It asks: Can emojis surpass their symbolic origins to become the dominant medium of a new era of communication? This project marks the death of the origin—and the rise of a new form of expression.
